The SAT is lame. They never liked my essays (gave me a 7 twice). And the stupid Math section is made up by people who clearly have no real depth to their math knowledge. Just people who want you to memorize a ton of geometry facts.

We have to pick two prompts out of eight. Here is the one I am working on right now:

One of the more interesting cultural debates of our time period in American literature is the role of science in society. As America becomes a more secularized, science begins to take place of religion in providing the answers to the mysteries of life. In this essay make an argument about how science is depicted in Ambrose Bierce's "The Damned Thing." You will want to settle on a specific role that science plays. Feel free to approach this from any angle, but remember to include a discussion of whether or not the author appears to be advocating that science should or should not have a role in public and private life.

I think its more interesting how the many people think that think science somehow negates religion. As a mathematics major who works with many scientists, and a girlfriend who is working towards a PHD in biology, it turns out many of the science professors in a relatively liberal campus hold some sort of religious beliefs. Go figure.

i wish i could help with the paper but that book hasn't made it to the bathroom yet... but it's funny you should say that because i argue with people about this all the time. one is dominant of the other and more importantly, just because one exists it doesn't mean the other is proven wrong. pisses me off to no end when people just yell loudly about something that doesn't make sense.it seems like that's what everyone does...at least down here

It just comes from people being uneducated in the area. All the loudest atheists who cite science hasn't taken science past high school. They just cite some paper from some guy with an agenda who may or may not be reputable in his/her field. I basically don't even listen to people's opinions on certain subjects anymore unless they prove they're educated enough to discuss it by rattling off some credentials.

Case in point: My cousin barely finished high school and had a child at 19... she thinks George Bush staged 9/11.

I'm more intolerable and I'm only 21. It's hilarious because you have the same people will go from saying he planned 9/11 to saying he's an idiot. it's like.. if you planned what would be one of the "biggest coverups ever" then you're not an idiot????
