Alive With the Glory of Love

Ah... ah... ah... ah!

When I watch you, wanna do you, right where you're standing, yeah,
right on the foyer, on this dark day, right in plain view, oh yeah,
of the whole ghetto. The boots stomp meadows, but we ignore that, yeah.
You're lovely, baby. This war is crazy. I won't let you down... oh, no, no, no.

No, I won't let them take you, won't let them take you, hell, no.
No, no, no! I won't let them take you, won't let them take you, no, no, no.
Oh, no, no, no!

And when our city, vast and shitty, falls to the Axis, yeah,
they'll search the buildings, collect gold fillings, wallets and rings, oh yeah.
But Ms. Black Eyeliner, you'd look finer with each day in hiding, yeah.
Beneath the wormwood, "Ooh! Love me so good!" They won't hear us screw away the day.

I'll make you say,
"No, I won't let them take you, won't let them take you, hell, no.
No, no, no! I won't let them take you, won't let them take you, no, no, no.
Oh, no, no, no!"

Our Trenblinka is alive with the glory of love!
Treblinka, alive with the glory of love!

Okay, alright, speed it up, go!

And should they catch us and dispatch us to those separate work camps,
I'll dream about you. I will not doubt you with the passing of time, oh yeah.
And should they kill me, your love will fill me, as warm as the bullets, yeah.
I'll know my purpose, this war was worse this, I won't let you down,
no I won't, no I won't, no I won't.

Alive! Alive! Alive with love, alive with love tonight!

No, I won't let them take you, won't let them take you, hell, no.
No, no, no! I won't let them take you, won't let them take you, no, no, no.
Oh, no, no, no!
Love, it will not betray you, dismay or enslave you.
It will set you free. Be more like the man you were made to be.
There is a design, an alignment, a cry of my heart to see
the beauty of love as it was meant to be.

This is my favorite Say Anything song.
Whether or not its about Max's grandparents or not is up for debate...? Haven't asked him.
At any rate, it's about the Holocaust, the systematic attempted genocide of six million Jews, by the Nazis in WWII Germany.
There were actually eleven million victims... gypsies/Roma, Communists, Socialists, gays, people with disabilities, even people on welfare.
The worst example of a genocide on record.
Resources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Holocaust, http://www.ushmm.org/, http://www.yadvashem.org/, etc.

What is is to me is a song celebrating the ability of love to triumph over anything, even the darkest period of human history, even the ugly blackness of death. I don't worry too much, because in the end, the "good guys" won the war. My grandfather was one of them. I know that there are, as Xavier Rudd sings, "Better people with more good to do."
Love, it will not betray you, dismay or enslave you.
It will set you free. Be more like the man you were made to be.

Pretty sure I read awhile ago it was about a love story about his grandparents. Maybe during the holocaust.

Well, definitely during the Holocaust.

this is my favorite say anything song. my boyfriend and i have been together 2 years. and a year and a half ago say anything was playing at B.O.M.Bfest, on my boyfriend's 18th birthday. Say Anything is one of his favorite bands, and Max Bemis is one of his idols when it comes to song writing..by some weird coincidence he hadn't heard about the concert. So i suprised him with tickets the day of. We were front row center when the band kicked off their part of the show with this song, and he proceeded to tell me that i gave him "the best birthday present ever" which was made even more complete when max jumped off teh stage right in front of us, and came out to play an acoustic version of baby girl im a blur, it's my favorite memory of us as a couple. and so this song has immense sentimental value to me. not to mention we've had our fair share of obstacles thrown our way, but we always seem to overcome them, and so the message of the song rings true, love conquers all. so about a month ago my boyfriend and i got these tattoos.. we wanted to send them to the band but we didn't know how to go about doing that.. so maybe by some chance they'll happen to look here and see :) we love you guys! thanks for giving us an amazing night we'll remember forever!
