Do the Dohnk

Let's leave our bodies at the door
And vacate our many skins
Too many aliens involved
They want to tell you it's a sin

You push me over and I crack
We're in a coffin on the floor
Communicating with the buzzing flesh
Forehead pressed against yours

They say if you love then you're doomed
We say you're so boring and blind
As we dim and damage the room
While we're out to waste your time

I flutter with a shiver breath
Unafraid of nothing less
I am inspired by your style, girl
I'm blushing red at what you said

And now we wake and it's the dusk
Electric oceans between us
I'm not ashamed as to become one
You'd be a fool to call it lust

They say if you love then you're doomed
We say you're so boring and blind
As we dim and damage the room
While we're out to waste your time

(waste your time
wasted all your time)

i think this is right...

i really like this song a lot because despite its cheery sound it still has that cool like double meaning thing going on that his classic songs used to(in my opinion). When i hear it it reminds me of the quote "Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking outward together in the same direction" (Antoine de Saint-Exupery). sort of. it's like everyone has the wrong idea except the ones that are in it.

BUT then it isn't hard to see it could be talking about sex. there's a line in ants in my pants where he says "Between your legs Between our heads Between our hearts" at first you're like, definitely sex then it's like oh...wait, what? this song is like opposite. the chorus seems like love song but then the whole meaning changes when you add the rest of the song with a different point of view. what do yall think?

/I reckon it represents letting go of what people/society are expecting you to do (in his case it'd be like the record company/music industry etc) and the lines
I flutter with a shiver breath
Unafraid of nothing less

I'm blushing red at what you said

And now we wake and it's the dusk
Electric oceans between us

is pretty much him talking about how he holds his wife's thoughts, opinions etc pretty high up there. And the latter verse is pretty much telling us/her that he genuinely loves her and it isn't another one of his desperate pleas for affection (like when he was a mad sex addict.. fuck we know too much about this man) Which is pretty romantic when you think about it.

That's me anyway.

haven't listened to it too much but I'll do a quick childish attempt at breaking it down.

Two things I get from this.
a) Possibly just being themselves around each other, putting away the facade they put up (the first two lines or so) based on what people want them to be
b)the end part could be referencing premarital sex being a sin, with all the references to body and flesh in the first lines it has a carnal feeling to it, besides the aliens
c) for fun, maybe Max doesn't like illegal immigrants
You push me over and I crack
We're in a coffin on the floor
Communicating with the buzzing flesh
Forehead pressed against yours
This brings back the ideas about sex. I mean actually "Do the Dohnk" kinda could allude to sex. Maybe this is from another perspective like the top is max saying lets have sex lets go and this is the girls response, (sherri being old fashioned / religious-er)
They say if you love then you're doomed
We say you're so boring and blind
As we dim and damage the room
While we're out to waste your time
To me this is talking about people saying relationships end when you get married. Calling out people who think all marriages are dead. This is just an interpretation going in line with the theme.
I flutter with a shiver breath

sherri praise
And now we wake and it's the dusk
Electric oceans between us
I'm not ashamed as to become one
You'd be a fool to call it lust
back to the idea that sex is wrong but he wants it anyway. 2nd line seems fillery. "to become one" is a euphemism from biblical times about marriage / sex. He's saying what they have is true with the last line.

my two cents

I think it's already my favorite, I love it, is it bad that I'm embarrassed to share my opinion on the songs <<;

I actually saw this part a little different than others saw it,
I see it more as, they wake up and go to their jobs of touring and distance.
Electric Oceans I saw as them communicating through phone calls and text messages.
Being in a similar situation I can understand that he's saying he's not ashamed to be whipped by his lady,
because he actually loves her and he's not just in it for the sex.

For the most part I feel everyone has a great interpenetration. Especially since music is an art and art is meant to be viewed different by all different people.

That makes a lot of sense though, especially with the Electric oceans between us part

Well thank you! I'm a writer myself, so I like to really pick things apart.
