Love conquers all (amor omnia vincit) is the theme, via the hero's journey, poss. as discussed in Joseph Campbell's The Hero with a Thousand Faces.
I mean, Max went to Sarah Lawrence c. this song, they push the comparative mythology there, Campbell was a prof there for a long time.

Annyway, there are whole chapters on "the descent into hell" and "the hero as lover."
